I know who Ackley was and what he did to improve calibers..

I truly like the 22250 caliber... However notice that you can get an Encore Custom Barrel 22250AI from www.eabco.com.

Wow now if you can improve on the 22250 I know I would like the 22250AI. However what really does it take to make the brass AI...I did some checking and it doesn't appear that you can buy factory brass.. If it's something as easy as just running 22250 brass through an 22250 AI die then it would not be a problem.. I just don't want to get into having to heat treat brass and things like that to fabricate new custom 22250 AI ammo..

I do know it has something to do with the shoulder of the case..

I do have an Encore 24 Inch 22250 barrel and a Model 788 in the 22250. I like them both... However if the AI would even make the 22250 AI shoot dime size groups... When your shooting at night time... An accurate rifle that shoots 1/4 inch groups at 100 to 250 yards would be deadly on coyotes..

Would just like to see anything or comments from people who own and shoot AI calbiers? Are they good are they bad any negative things and good things?????

UB I have a 25-06 AI barrel on one of my Savage actions now and I think I am going to like it. I have not gotten too much load work done but it is really accurate with fire forming loads. With a 22-250 I don't think you will see too much improvement in velocity, but where you gain is the AI version will not need trimmed as much.

Forming AI cases is pretty simple you just shoot factory ammo or a good load in reloads in the AI chamber, then check for any splits or breaks. Then reload and shoot as a AI.
Ai calibers are a little tricky to load for as they seem to not show pressure signs sometimes until you are in trouble. I have not had time to run many thru my Chrono yet but it looks like I am getting 150 to 200 fps. from my 25-06 over the factory. They are fun but do require some work and expense. Gordon

Bythebook that doesn't sound difficult at all.. Thank you for sharing the info on AI. I was really thinking about getting a longer barreled 22250 (28 incher in the Encore system).. Just might consider going to the 22250AI... That barrel is a 26 incher.. However Like many of us on here we do like that 22250 caliber!!!

The only Ackley Improved rifle I own is a .22-250 Ackley Improved. It is also the only custom-built rifle I own... It's built on a Remington 700 action, with a Shilen Select Match Grade stainless steel barrel... The guy that built it handed it to me along with a set of dies, half a box of loaded rounds, most of a box of Sierra 52 grain HPBT Match bullets, a load recipe, and a handfull of fire-formed brass...and told me this recipe was making just under 4200 fps on his chronograph...and that it would hammer tacks... I still shot my .22-250 often, but the .22-250AI became my main coyote rifle when calling the flat prairie lands west of town where shots sometimes stretched across zip codes... And I will also say that it is the most accurate rifle I have ever held in my hands.............. But I figure, with the .22-250AI I am gaining considerably over my normal .22-250 loading in my Savage 110, but my main loading in my .22-250 uses a heavier 55 grain bullet, and I'm not "hot-rodding" it. It's just making a little under 3700 fps..
