I don't own an expensive one...A NEF Single shot...however it's great for night time hunting for coyotes....Most times you only get one shot..So using the single shot at night is not a handicap...
Also good for hunting Reynard over snow at night...Figure no light needed then...Twilight conditions prevail...Reynard AKA Male Red Fox or a Vixen AKA Female..over snow at night...Bulb squeaker...Wow you can see them coming to that call hundreds of yards away...Nice...50 yards... You pop them with the 10 gauge... You don't want to shoot one at three feet away though.. Thing would look like one of them there Waffle fries with all the holes in them..

Anyone else use the 10 gauge for ducks, geese, turkey, and predators?

I still have to practice what I teach, lecture on, or write about, but, alas, that is getting to be a real difficult thing. The ole bod doesn't take too kindly for much of that activity these days. (But, don't give me even a shirt button at 300 yds, or it's mine!)

I have a neighbor that uses the 10 gauge for ducks,
geese, turkey. He says it is much better for him for
this game. Personally, I have never tried the 10 ga
for any hunting. I have repaired a few, but never
hunted with one. Maybe that is due to the fact that
I don't own one, or do much hunting these days.
I have heard of people who use the 8, and even the
4 ga for hunting, but to me these seem more like
some type of 'deck gun' than for hunting game. lol

I can't truly say that it kicks more then the 12 gauge..You know how that is?...When the animal comes in you never feel the kick when you discharge the gun???????????

I had always thought the 10 gag. would be excellent for coyotes in the woods or along the river or creek bottoms, but I admit that I have never shot one... A friend of mine used to hunt with a fella with an old 10 gag. semi-auto shotgun. I believe he said it was a Remington... But he told me that he could not really tell any difference between the recoil of his friend's 10 gag., and his own 12 gag with 3 1/2 inch Magnum shells.

I have fired the 10 ga a few times. I believe
the 'kick' is about the same as my short, light
weight riot gun when firing slugs.

It is a good thing that in the 'heat' of the
situation that one never really seems to feel
the recoil, or even to think about it. It
kinda takes a newbie, or going out for practice
on a day that one feels bad to remember, and
notice the effects. Of course, these days of
my old age, and mostly just practice rather
than situations where my concentration is on
the situation, I do tend to feel it more.
