I took some better photos of my dual-optics RRA Varmint 24.

This outfit has been lethal on prairie dogs, jackrabbits, badgers, and the occasional careless coyote. The Leupold VX-III 6.5-20X50 Long Range Varmint Hunter takes care of the long shots, and the Burris FastFire red dot mounted on the Larue LT-137 ring extention, handles anything that pops up at close range. At close to 12 lbs., you would not want to pack it very far from some kind of rest. I have been using this setup for the past 2 years and it's my favorite rifle now.

That rifle sure looks nice. I haven't wanted to change my
AR-18 type of mount it has to mount a different scope, so
I will just keep using the original scope that came with
the rifle when it was first issued.

My rifle is light, though. I like a heavy rifle. Yours
would be about the same weight I prefer, and what I had
with my M-1 setup that I used with the military. Actually,
my M-1 was 13 pounds with the accessories. It was 9 lbs,
10 oz empty. The rest was the accessories, and not
including a full clip.

Whereas I have always preferred a heavy rifle, these
days one seems to steady my shaky hands better also.

I am building a long range AR. I have a Kaiser Defense lower, Magpul stock so far. I Am looking at the 20 Predator from Bushmaster. It has a 1/8 twist, chromed, fluted barrel, free float aluminum hand guard.

I have not found the scope I want yet. i just can not swing the high dollars for a the really good stuff.

I do like the black rifles. They are just sexy to me. They have this feeling when you hold them, the cold hard steel, just says, stand back or die.

I was reading ar15.com and I liked the term, ICKY black rifle. A jab at the anti gun crowd.

For a long range AR, with your rifle being either a 1-7 or 1-8
twist you can load up 24.1gr of Reloader, 15 power Fed 205M
primer & 80gr siearra match king to reach 600yds accurately.

Originally, the AR-15/M-16 started with a 1-14 twist, but
the military changed it to a 1-12. Older rifles, and most
of the military today are of the 1-12 twist. The 1-12 twist
also does pretty well with the above load, but not the 1-14.

If a person has the 1-12 twist and wants a change, some
great barrels can be found here:

The RRA in the photos is a 1/8 twist and seems to favor the 55-65 grain bullets. I'm not interested in using it for ultra long range work with the longer bullets. I prefer to use only ammo that will fit in standard magazines. My favorite prairie dog, jackrabbit, and coyote load is:

60 grain Hornady V-Max @ 3100 fps (24 in barrel)
24.6 grains Benchmark powder
CCI BR-4 primers
Winchester or LC Uniformed, neck sized brass
COAL= 2.260

My Favorite load for my new tricked out 1/12 twist Remington 700 VLS is:

55 grain Hornady V-Max @ 3280 fps (26 in barrel)
25.3 grains Benchmark powder
CCI BR-4 primers
Winchester or LC Uniformed, neck sized brass
COAL= 2.260

I't still doing load development for this rifle.

I put my money down on the Bushmaster 20" Predator upper assembly. I should have it in about 2 weeks. I also put my money down on a scope and mount. I was not able to spend the money on a UBAR scope, but I have read this one is pretty damn good for the price.

$100.00 scope

mount
