What does everyone do after your state's Big Game Season (usually Deer Rifle Season) is over ??

For me, I usually take a weekend or two to get caught up on chores the wifey has stacked up (last weekend).

Then it's ... buy & delivery County Hams (as well as "tip a few" with most of them) for my favorite Farmers I hunt on thru the year (that's this weekend). These days, the 5 County Hams I end up buying, translates into some where around 7k acres of land access, out of which I prolly only really actively hunt around 500 acres or so of here lately. :D

Next weekend and beyond, I'll try to get some Predator & Varmit hunting in as time permits.

We'll be doing some travel and camping, visit some of the kids/grandkids, forget about school for a couple weeks.

No hams needed, among my immediate neighbors and myself, we have about 600 acres to hunt. We'll prolly get together with them to quaff a few and 'fess up to the dumbest thing we did all season.

"Sweetie, did you put those new .44 shells in the pack?"
"Yes, Darling!"

Hike, hike, hike ... far end of said 600 acres ...

"Err, Dear One, these seem to be the new .44 SNAKE SHOT I *bought*, not the new 300gr. Speer RNFPBT that I *re-loaded* for the deer carbine."

Hike, hike, hike....

Well, before I got gimped up I only deer hunted on weekends and after work during the season. Deer gun season always ended the last day of November here... The first day of December trapping season started...and I took all my vacation and comp time that I had been saving all thru the year off then. This gave me from December 1st until about the middle of January, off work...and all I did during this time was run traps and call predators....and occasionally eat and sleep a little......... Now, however, one day is pretty much like the next. So, I'll be doing about the same things I did before big game season started.

Well, my next season has already began. It started well too. When I returned home from school today I hunted a few squirrels, shooting two of them. Only sat for like 1 hour total. There is like 8 inches of snow here so it will be interesting. Maybe a bunny hunt up north in the future to fill between now and the icefishing trip(s).

After season is over I am so tired of venison that it's time to start fishing again.

I got a small pack to examine, thinking maybe I could toss a couple in my pocket when I was carrying the carbine (if they seemed to shoot OK), just in case I ran up on a no-legger, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

(and yes, it was your comments that prompted me to try it... thanks!)

Well I got two grouse hunts yet, taking 3 yr old for his first squirrel hunt, then thats about it till Spring gobbler.

As much as hemmy hates winter at camp, I like to make one or two trips to keep an eye on things, make sure everything is alright, although freaken heat is expensive.
