Hi,

I'm 14 and Im really outdoorsy, like I go camping a lot and I like doing buschraft, so surviving basically.

Anyway, I can't use my air rifle at the moment, to hunt rabbits. So I need to use something else: I made a bow and some arrows a little while back, but I  that's an offensive weapon and I can't cover it and carry it around, also, it's impractical for hunting as small game runs as soon as they see the bowstring being pulled - I know, I've tried it   :shiftyninja:

SO, I came to the conclusion that I should use a slingshot, I have three viable options, please say which would be best:

1. Make my own.

2. Buy the Barnet Pro-Diablo

3. Buy the Barnet Black Widow.

On top of that, Could you tell me what would be the best ammunition to use, I don't want to spend loads, and I haven't got a shop that I can go into every other day to buy more rounds.

And; I need to know the technicalities of hunting with a slingshot, eg. what distance to fire from. I will mainly be hunting in fields not woods.

Thanks a lot!

First... Let me say, "Welcome to the forum, Survivalist........... As to slingshots... While a person can make a serviceable slingshot, if they are not "experienced in making them", they would most likely have much better results by buying the best they can afford... As to which to buy...that would be personal preference, as there are quite a number of quality slingshots out there for sale...... Ammo, is also a matter of personal choice... The least expensive, of course, would simply be rocks...preferably the roundest and smoothest you can find. You would need to try several sizes to find what you like best for your personal needs....... Actual slingshot ammo is not overly expensive...however...I can understand how it could be to someone on a tight budget, especially if they have to travel to the store each time they need more... Personally, I go to the local "Dollar Store" and buy the cheapest common sized marbles I can find... You can generally find them for about a dollar for a bag of 100 marbles... Buy 2 or 3 bags for 2 or 3 dollars, and you will be pretty well stocked with ammo... And marbles shoot very well in slingshots, and will easily take out small game and varmints to reasonable ranges. I have several containers of actual slingshot ammo in various sizes and of various types, but I shoot alot more marbles than all the actual slingshot ammo combined... As far as range... The only way to really determine that is to shoot and see what your personal range is...or how far you can shoot and still hit your target... And understand that slingshots can be extremely accurate...however...it takes alot of shooting to get there. Like with anything else worth learning, it takes practice..................... Again, Welcome... Glad to have you join us.

Thanks a lot.
Really helpful, especially the bit about marbles.
Also it's encouraging that slingshots have good accuracy

Thanks again

Its all about practice...You will however have a tendency to fire all over the place when practicing...The trick is to imagine you are starving and your target could be dinner so take your time on each shot then you will get better, But have fun aswell Happy Hunting

DEN pretty much nailed it... "It's all about practice." ................ The more you practice, the better you will become. Just ask this fella... It takes ALOT of practice, maybe more than that, to get here.... http://www.wimp.com/toogood/

As late as I am on this reply, you could also consider making a "sling-bow." It's basically a slingshot that you can also shoot arrows out of. There's a video on youtube that shows how to make them using a folding wrist rocket, a whisker biscuit, and some modified arrows. Seems pretty simple and I keep meaning to make one of my own to play with.
