I purchased two Mec reloaders back in abut 1979. I still have them..a 12 and a 20. I often wondered if they should have had a charge bar and some powder and shot busing with them. I purchased them from a gunsmith...He would order things for you so hence he got the two presses for me. Young and green in reloading I remember him reaching inside the boxes and removing the charge bars....Do all MEC reloaders come with a bar or do some come without them and you have to buy them?

What I did was I purchased two Universal Charge Bars... Um should have purchased one since one would have worked in all the presses... Anyway....The Universal was so much easier to use..However all these years I often wondered if the bars should have come with my presses...By the way this has been so long ago the poor soul is no longer with us.

Anyway if your going to get a shotgun press....Get yourself a Universal Charge bar instead of using all those bushing and the MEC charge bar...However the bar should be a part of the kit if the company intends you to have it...

I've purchased two MEC presses and they both came with a charge bar. I prefer the standard charge bars and a powder cup. I use my powder scale until the proper powder cup is determined (the tables that are provided by MEC tend to be too light. It usually takes a couple of powder cups with larger capacity before I have the proper powder weight. When I get the right powder weight, I then keep that charge bar aside for that specific load. Everyone of my different powder loads has its own dedicated charge bar and powder cup. I find it much quicker to change to a different load this way.

When I bought my MEC 9000G it came with a charge bar and bushings. I was given several extra bushings by a friend and to get the one load I wanted to I had to file a bushing out a little at a time. I think if I had gotten the adjustable bar I could have done this a lot easier.

Yes if your going to reload shotgun shells...Get one of the Universal Charge Bars...It has micrometer settings...One side is set for the powder the other side of the shot...Once set you just move the charge bar back and forth at the appropriate time to get the same weight of powder and shot as you desire....
Just make sure you annotate the order form for the correct one of the two for the MEC press you have...
