I "stole" this idea for a post from Uncle Buck's forum... I found it an interesting topic, so am bringing it over here.............

I have seen various sets of rings and mounts selling from just a couple bucks to over 100 dollars...by companies such as "Fly-By-Night", WEAVER, REDHEAD, BROWNING, MILLET, BURRIS, LEUPOLD, TASCO, ect., ect... As you know, the scope mounting system can make or break a hunting trip, or even a single shot... Do you always use a certain brand, do you just get "whatever is on sale", or do you get whatever is easily found at the local gun shop?

For me, the only mount problem I have ever had was with a pair of "No-Name" rings I bought on sale once... Other than that I pretty much stick with WEAVER'S. They are simple, strong, easy to find, and fairly inexpencive... I have quite a few sets in use now, some for a good many years, and they have never caused me any problems.... What about you ?

I am not a huge weaver fan, they work but imho for a few dollars more I prefer Burris or Leupold mounts... dovetail in front and windage adjustaboe in the rear.
My favorite rings hands down are Burris Signature. They are easy to install and have the capeability to add offset inserts for longer distance or to correct a mounting problem/error. Signature rings also save times as you do not need to lap rings.
I do have a Rem 700 with Darrel Holland's one piece mount/ring. They are pleasing to the eye but I tend to swap scopes on my varmint rifles and the lack of height adjustment for different diameter objectives limits me.
I have looked at Deadnutz one piece ring/mounts and like them but then again for me they would be best if I did not swap scopes.

If I dont need any extra MOA, I use Talley light weights.

It makes a lot of difference on the rifle and application which rings and mounts I go with. A set of Plain Jane Weavers would not look right on a custom rifle, and the custom set would look out of place on a basic rifle.

The most I have ever paid for rings and mounts went on my AR-15. They sell for $265 for the main scope mount with red dot attachment. That's alot of beans for rings and mounts for one rifle, but I could not be more satisfied with the results. (See Below) I'm a big fan of the picatinny bases and Warne rings for bolt guns. I have several Leupold STD bases and rings that do well for most applications. The Burris Signature Zee rings are nice for not marking up a pricey scope tube and are priced reasonable.

I doubt I could get by with one brand these days.

On my Rifle I like a one piece mount with Burris Signature series rings, IMO the best for the money.
