I'm looking at buying a new pair of FRS/GMRS Radios and would like you opinions as far as what Manufacturer you think is best and any problems that you have experienced with an certain brand.

I guess the major brands would be Cobra, Midland, and Motorola. Quite honestly, reading the product reviews on all of them doesn't give one a real warm fuzzy on any particular brand. :o

thanks !!

Thanks Butch !!

I guess I'm sort of leaning towards the "high-end" Motorola's at the moment, either those or possibly Cobra's. I'v heard a few bad things about the Midland's (not communicating well with other brands), although they seem to get as good of reviews as the others do presently, even better on some models ... so maybe they have fixed those problems.

By the way, what sort of scope did you end up getting for Christmas ???

Hey 99er,

I got a nice Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40 gloss scope. I had to go out and buy new rings since the original rings on the Savage would not work. I got some nice gloss steel Weaver Grand Slam rings and mounted everything up and bore sighted the new scope. It's awesome!! :D

Cool, when you taking it to the range ??? :dribble:

That reminds me, I need to call the Bawana and find out how he's coming with my 300 Savage Ammo.

Hopefully this weekend, I'll try it out at the range. Do you (or anyone on this board) want an old Simmons 3-9x32 scope? I could put it on my old Marlin .30-30 but don't want to. I kinda like the .30-30 as is, with the plain iron sights.

Butch,

Do what you want, but I'v made the mistake in the past of getting rid of old scopes.

Besides, it still works and it isn't costing ya anything to keep. I know it's bigtime overkill, but In addition to my 3 rilfes (that all have scopes), I have a "spare" scope laying around boxed-up in "Stayput" ... might take me a few hours to find it, but I know it's in there somewheres !! lmao :D

Butch,

By the way, I talked to Bawana last night, and guess wut ... he hain't done diddley as far as working on my 300 Savage Ammo yet. Welp, at least he had proper "fetchin up" ... party first, work later !! lmao :D

Also, I'v done a 360 on the FRS/GMRS Radios, Midland has become my top choice (at the moment). After perusing their some of their specs they have a "group talk feature" and if that happened to be set "on", that would explain some the so-called problems I heard about trying to communicate with other Radios. I also emailed their tech support about a question I had and got a response back in around 1hr, and from an American none the less !! LOL

LOL!

That's cool with the FRS radios. Midland is a real good brand. Motorola is another one. In fact, my dad used to work on motorola radios and other communication devices when he was with the fire dept and ambulance company back in the 60's and 70's.

I'll hang onto that scope until I meet up with you and Bawana again. Then you two or heck, anyone, could find use for the old 3-9x32 scope. I already asked my daughter is she wants it for her Marlin .22 but she said, "No... Putting a scope on a .22 is cheating!" (you remember the story of how she out-shot me with my own boyhood .22 a few years back. So, naturally I had to pass it on down to her - hey, she earned it! :D )

Bawana hasn't worked on your 300 Savage ammo yet? Wow... I wonder if he's reloaded any .308 rounds for me/you/us.

I've got a pair of the Midland 5 watt radios that work pretty well. Remeber, radio waves are line of sight. If in a deep canyon or behind a hill or mountain your partner likely won't pick you up. In irregular terrain the range is significantly reduced.

I just bought a pair of Midland GXT950VP4 5 watt, two way FRS/GMRS radios through Amazon for $69.00
They were picked the best from Field & Stream.. I haven't had a chance to use them much yet..They have some nice features.
