Year after year my wife has had problems with squirrrels, rabbits, and chucks doing a number on her garden. This year she sprinkled some of that red hot pepper that you see in Pizza Shops. The critters are not even going into the garden.

We have this chipmunk that would sit on certain areas of the outside and defecate. She sprinkled some red pepper on and near these areas. Chip and or Dale have not been back since.

Check the Dollar Stores for cheap red pepper. A little does go along way and it does not hurt the plants.

Remember not the real fine pepper. The red pepper they use in the Pizza shops works best.

Awesome, awesome tip! I remember my granny would crush some kind of pepper and put out for the deer and stuff. I guess I never thought about "why" .

I just have a big fence, and for the small critters, have tin around the bottoms and they go a little in the ground for the pesky burrowing types. So...now all I have is moles  Sometimes an armadillo ventures in if someone leaves the gate open....but, I have all kinds of fun chasing them down! :D

I have heard that hanging bars of IRISH SPRING soap on poles or something around a garden would keep the deer out... I have not tried it, but know one lady that lives at the edge of the woods that says that it stopped her deer problems... We don't have alot of problems here with animals in our garden...but then occasionally I will take a pellet gun and "pop" a starling or two that gets into it.

Noticde the roughe Woodchuck hanging around the garden but as of yet it did not mow down the garden like yesteryear.

However I have placed two snares out on each side of the fence that this woodchuck travels. Should he return I do not want to mess aroundl Many do not realize how much work and what the cost of flowers runs up to at this house.

However at the end of each day, come 8:00 PM I go out and dismantle the snares. The snares I use do not kill just hold the critter in place. I DO NOT WANT TO CATCH ONE OF THOSE BLACK AND WHITE WOODCHUCKS THAT COME OUT AT NIGHT TIME. You know the woodchucks that have that white stripe down the middle of their back.
