My Gunsmith (Clyde) is truely "top shelf" in my eyes at least !! ;) :D

Bout a month ago I dropped off the 250-3000 that was my Grandad's, a scope, and a crisp $100 bill. I proceeded to con the "old coot" into trying to make me a set of custom scope mounts for it, as I didn't want to have any new holes drilled in it. I told him that he had till August to get her done. <_<

Well today Nana & I popped in to visit while were were out riding around in the rain. Viola, when I got there there were 2 other guys there and be damned if old Clyde didn't have out my 250-3000 proudly showing off his work to them. Turns out he now has another set to make for one of them who has a 300 Savage Model-99 that he doesn't want drilled either.

Anyway for $100 ... I got the custom mounts, including rings & bore-sighting and boy to do they look great !! They are much more "functional" than the old "Stith-type" model-99 mounts, can be used on any modern scope, solid as a rock, and $100 sure as hell beats the going rate of $150 to $200 on the Stith mounts if you can ever find them !! :o

So, tomorrow I be out dialing that succa in ... all I can say is ... Hell Yeah !!!! ... Clyde you be the man !! Iffin ya'll can't tell, I'm happier than a pig in slop !! ;)

I also have a 250-3000 that needs the same scope mounts that your gunsmith made for you. Would he be willing to make another set?
If not, would it be possible to see a picture of the one he made for you as a guide, so I can try and have one made.

Any help you can give me, will be appreciated.

Thanks

smithgw,

First welcome aboard !!

I hate to admit it, but I haven't visited Clyde in a couple of years, and last I heard his eyesight was going downhill real fast.

Here is the only pic I have of my 250/3000 that somewhat shows at least the concept of what Clyde did ...

In a nutshell, he took a rail that a rail-type mount would fit onto and formed/drilled it to mount to the rear two tang screw holes. Then he used a shorter rail for the front, and used the existing rear iron-sight adjustment screw hole to mount it.

Curious, what state are you located in ??

Edit (added):
I looked at the rifle when I got home tonight and there is a rear rail section, but it mounts to another piece of metal that mounts via the rear tang holes; and he actually cut a slit about 1/3 of the way down (sideways) into it; that allowed him to bend that metal piece down in the front (next to the action) to fit the contour of the reciever.

In addition to being a Gunsmith, Clyde was a machinist by trade, so of course it was all ground, rounded, and looked like it an actual manufactured part. :D

Tanks for the your reply and photo. I am going to a local gunsmith, who also does machine work. Hopfully he can make mounts using the information you have provided. Regarding where I live, I live about 45 miiles NE of Dallas, Texas.

Thanks again,

Your quite welcome, let me know how you make out.

Also, do you happen to reload for your 250-3000 and if so, care to share any sort of loading info you might be using ??

thanks !!
